The bad news for Sri Lanka is that Kusal Perera has been ruled out from the series due to his right shoulder injury during training.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) on 16th July 2021, confirmed that wicket-keeper batsman Kusal Perera will not be able to take part in the ODI and the T20I series against India as he suffered a right shoulder sprain during training. A doctor said he’s likely to be out for 6 weeks.
Kusal Perera’s withdrawal from the series means Sri Lanka will lose their first-choice wicket-keeper.
While the next option of wicket-keeper, Niroshan Dickwella is under suspension following a bio-bubble breach on the recent tour of England.
Kusal Perera was the captain on the tour of England where he has scored one fifty. As of now, Dasun Shanaka has been appointed as the team captain.
Although Kusal Perera was not in a good form in the England Series, he has been one of Sri Lanka’s best batsmen.
Sri Lanka failed to win even a single match on their tour to England as they suffered a 3-0 defeat in T20Is and a 2-0 loss in the ODI series.
